The Mission of Zion’s Youth Ministry is to assist each young person of Zion Lutheran to grow in
their relationship with Jesus Christ and to equip them to be worshipping, serving, and witnessing disciples of Jesus Christ.
We loved you so much that we are delighted to share with you not only the Gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to
us.…encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into kingdom and glory. 1 Thessalonians 2:8
The Philosophy of Zion Youth Ministry
We acknowledge that Youth ministry at Zion Lutheran Church is under the leading of the Holy Spirit and that God blesses
through Word and Sacrament Ministry. We also recognize that God has called us to be stewards of this ministry. Our desire is not to merely entertain young people, but to help them develop as whole
persons in Jesus Christ. We want to offer young people a safe place where they can belong and somewhere that their lives can make a difference.
To establish this kind of ministry, the following are key concepts that will guide us:
- A Christ-centered ministry focus where everything we do must ultimately
help to achieve our mission statement.
- A Foundation of Prayer where we will continually place our youth before the Lord.
- Word and Sacrament are vital to the growth of our young people. Regular church attendance is emphasized.
- Grounded in Scripture, we will hold God’s Word as our foundation and
proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ as truth.
- Relational Ministry that seeks to cultivate and deepen the young person’s relationships to Jesus Christ and
other Christians.
- Service and Missions empowers young people to discover and use their God-given gifts, skills and abilities as they grow to a mature faith.
- A safe and affirming environment that accepts young people as they are and shows them their value.
- Parental involvement that promotes the value of family.
- Student leadership that nurtures skills and expands capabilities.
- Mentoring/Intergenerational ministry that connects young people with
positive, spiritual adults in whom they can confide and trust.
- Team approach that models “one body, many parts”.
(1 Corinthians 12)
- Leaders as role models, recruiters and equippers who are conscious of their lives and actions, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to live in accordance with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
- Impact events that will help to define and impact the individual’s spiritual life.
- Development of long-range plans that present a vision for future ministry.
